The formation of PRAGMA, a new non-profit association committed to supporting open-source blockchain software initiatives, has been announced by the Cardano Foundation. This in conjunction with four more organizations: Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe.

The announcement was made by Renagh Moone, the Global Communications Director, in a post. The association’s statutes were signed, marking the formal debut of PRAGMA. It’s primary focus will be to create an environment where developers can work together and expand upon open-source technology.

Through supporting a community-driven software development method, the arrangement seeks to establish a strong and long-lasting ecosystem for Cardano and other blockchain networks.

As a first step, PRAGMA will lend a hand to ongoing open-source initiatives on the Cardano platform. And promote the creation of related tools and technologies. A phased approach to the projects will be used to accomplish this.

The Amaru project is where it will all start. This project aims at developing a Rust-based Cardano full node that can fully interoperate with current Haskell nodes. The December 2023 introduction of Cardano’s W3C-compatible Identity Wallet demonstrates the company’s commitment to interoperability.

One such important project is Aiken, a platform for smart contracts that aims to streamline and enhance Cardano smart contract development.

Sources claim that PRAGMA will expand the number of Cardano network developers who may become members in the second phase, which is set to take place in 2025. Creating a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds to work together on software development is essential, as is encouraging more cooperation and creativity.
