South Korea Authorities Haven’t Been In Contact With Terra’s Do Kwon.

After months of being holed up in Singapore, Terra founder now says he has never been in contact with South Korean authorities.

The events of May 2022 in crypto are still very fresh in many people’s minds. Chief among them is the collapse of the Terra ecosystem that followed the de-pegging of the UST stablecoin and the Terra Luna’s price crash. The crash led to investors losing over $40 billion within weeks. A few investment schemes like Celsius, Three Arrows Capital, and Voyager went underwater as the market collapsed after LUNA.

Following the crash, South Korean authorities are said to have launched an „Terraform Labs“ tyrimas to unearth details about the crash. Prosecutors have since raided TFL premises as well as homes belonging to some Terra employees for evidence. However, Terra founder Do Kwon now says that he hasn’t been in contact with the authorities. He intimated this during a recent interview with Coinage Media.

Will Do Kwon Return To South Korea?

Do Kwon has been living in Singapore for some time, having moved out of South Korea before the authorities banned Terra employees from traveling out of the country. Singapore has no extradition treaty with SK, meaning that it would be hard for prosecutors to get Do Kwon in custody.

"Bloomberg" ataskaitos during the interview with Coinage Media, Kwon was asked if he plans to return to South Korea any time soon. He said,

“It’s kind of hard to make that decision because we’ve never been in touch with the investigators. They’ve never charged us with anything.”

However, he promised to cooperate with authorities if need be. About the possibility of him serving time in jail, Kwon said, “Life is long.”

Prosecutors Are Not Talking

Interestingly, South Korean prosecutors don’t seem to be in a hurry to share details of their investigation with the media. Last month, they raided the home of Terraform Labs co-founder, Daniel Shin, citing illegal operations relating to the collapse of Terra. When asked about the ongoing investigation, they only told the media that they’re “taking necessary measures.”
