The economy in figures

The number of property owners (Uplanders) has climbed steadily since the game first debuted in its beta version in mid 2019. Now the owners tally nearly 252,594, with a combined ownership between them of more than 2.8 million properties.

With Upland, it’s not just about properties. The game includes a number of other minted assets, such as explorers, NFLPA Player Legits, Spirit Halloween Legits, and structure ornament NFTs. These make a grand total of 905,831 NFTs, of which 20,077 are unique NFTs.

Upland has an economy that never stands still. On an average basis, 5,962 NFTs are minted each day, providing an average daily transaction volume in UPX (the ingame currency) of more than 143 million. To date, players have purchased a total of nearly 36 billion UPX. UPX is a stable currency and isn’t affected by the big ups and downs of the cryptocurrency market.

Those who want to sell their properties and other NFTs can do so in either UPX or USD. UPX cannot be transacted into USD, but is used to buy properties that can then be sold for USD. So how players take value out of the game is by selling their properties and NFTs into USD. A total of $2,818,940 has so far been earned by players in this way. 

In fact, the Upland system has an average markup multiplier of 3.58, meaning that the average Upland property sells for 3.58 times its original mint price on the secondary market.

Making an average 3.58 multiple markup on your property in Upland really isn’t a bad idea. There are many properties still to be minted across the Upland cities, and of course many players have properties for sale on the secondary market. 

Buying properties now in various strategic areas of the game’s cities could well be a lucrative investment if they are sold in a year or two, or flipped in order to buy more expensive ones.

New additions to the Upland metaverse

What’s a metaverse, without a transport system to get around it?

Coming soon to the Upland metaverse is M varikliai and cars. You might say that there are already airports, but just like in the real world, players will have the option of a car, in order to take them around and between cities. In fact, some cities in Upland will only be accessible by car.

And just in the real world, Upland will provide most of the possibilities that cars offer. Ridesharing, racing, and car dealerships to name a few. 

Imagine, you need to get from San Francisco, the very first Upland city, to Queens, soon to be launched in the Upland metaverse. You own a car, and decide to advertise a rideshare to pay for the journey and earn extra UPX. Later on that evening, you enter your car into one of the races at a racetrack nearby. Upland will eventually be full of such possibilities.

Metaventures

Another new feature coming to the Upland metaverse is Metaventures, or player-owned shops. Businesses in a metaverse can provide the impetus for a thriving entrepreneur economy, just like in the real world. As more businesses take off, more value is transacted across the metaverse, and more players are attracted into Upland. 

To start off with, Block Explorer shops will be the first to open in a coming Beta launch. Block Explorers are the avatars that players use as their representative icon in the Upland metaverse. They will enable every player to make their identity striking and unique.

Also in the pipeline are Outdoor Decor shops that will sell decorations in order to further enhance player’s properties. Upland wants all decor NFTs to be a tasteful fit, so decor shop owners work with the Upland team in order to get their designs passed.

The future of the Upland metaverse

In time to come, Upland wants to attract further business types to its metaverse. Art galleries, cafes, and car dealerships will be just the beginning. 

In fact, a metaverse should reach out to the limits of our imaginations. All manner of entertainment, services, and interactions should eventually be built out. Upland is just beginning on this journey. As its economy grows the Upland metaverse is likely to move in all manner of directions. The future is rich in all sorts of possibilities.
